Dr. Donald Morris has more than 30 years of experience conducting public school and university bands in Tennessee, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky and North Carolina. He currently teaches band and general music at Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, and directed the Charlotte Concert Band from 1999 to 2011, leading them to their first NCMEA performance in 2008. Dr. Morris holds a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Tennessee, a Master's in Conducting from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University. He studied conducting with W J Julian, Donald Neuen, John Paynter and James Croft. Dr. Morris has written several essays for the “Teaching Music Through Performance in Band” series, and he prepared the program notes for the University of North Texas CD “Composer Collection: Vincent Persichetti” from GIA Publications. He is married to Amy Boger Morris, a professional pianist and faculty member at Winthrop University.
